About Munnar
About MunnarA breathtakingly beautiful and scenic drive meandering through forests and plantations 130 kms to the east of Cochin brings you to the tiny hill town of Munnar at alititudes ranging from 1600 to1800 metres. Set amid South India's most spectacular mountain region Munnar is one of the highest tea-growing centres in the world.

The town of Munnar stands at confluence of three mountain streams. Majestic mountain peaks, lush green forests, wildlife sanctuaries and sparkling waterfalls merge to create the unique magic of Munnar. The former summer resort of the erstwhile British in South India, Munnar is home to some exotic flora including the renowned Neelakurinji the flower that blooms only once every twelve years bathing the hills in blue. Clouds gently kiss the mountain peaks that flank the verdant, blue and red gum trees that shoot up into the sky, and the winding lanes of this quaint town are filled with fragrance of fresh tea wafting out of the innumerable tea processing plants.

There are about thirty tea estates that sprawl across these hills. Beyond these estates are rich tropical forests that are home to an assortment of wildlife including the Nilgiri Tahr, the rare mountain goat, can be spotted on the hillsides of Rajamalai, a few kms from Munnar, Nilgiri Langur, Sambar, Gaur, Elephant and Lion - tailed Macaques.
